PIPELINE PASSAGE
-
The Pipeline Trail was a popular if unsanctioned feature of the James River Park System in Richmond for decades. Consisting of an elevated metal walkway over a (now discontinued) sewer pipe, the trail was abruptly closed in 2024, removing access to many beaches and scenic areas by land. Two Street Studio collaborated with RVA Paddlesports, a local outfitter whose business depends on this access, to reimage a path to the pipeline rapids. Reusing a portion of the discontinued pipe, we proposed a "stepping stone” style bridge to renew access, forming a landmark that is both a nod to the regions past and could form the foundations of a new accessible bridge in the future.
